Detect

Intrusion detection systems

Intrusion detection systems are designed to identify selected unauthorized access conditions or security events and provide an alarm indication.

Early Warning

Know when something is wrong.

While armed, an intrusion system watches its protected areas — internal spaces and selected external zones — and raises an alarm indication when a protected condition is triggered: a door opened, movement where there should be none.

Areas are organized into system zones at a level appropriate to the facility, so an alarm points responders to the affected part of the site — the arrangement is defined per system design.

  1. Detect

A device identifies a protected condition.

  2. Signal

The device signals the control panel.

  3. Control

The panel processes the event and zone.

  4. Alert

Alarm indication is raised per the design.

System architecture varies by equipment and project design.

System Elements

What an intrusion system involves.

  • 01

    Control Panel

The system's centre: monitors the detection devices, manages arming and disarming, and drives the alarm indication.

  • 02

    Motion Detectors

Identify movement within protected internal areas while the system is armed.

  • 03

    Door & Contact Detection

Contacts identify when protected doors, windows or access points are opened.

  • 04

    Alarm Indication

Sounders and indication equipment communicate the alarm condition, per the system design.

Requirement First

Protection is defined per facility.

Which areas are protected, which conditions raise an alarm and how the indication is arranged all follow from the facility's requirement — established through a site survey before any equipment is specified.

Application Contexts

  • Offices and administrative facilities outside working hours
  • Stores, warehouses and asset-holding areas
  • Controlled rooms and restricted zones
  • Facility compounds with selected external detection

Our Approach

Assess. Specify. Install. Support.

  1. 01

    Assess

We begin by understanding the facility, the requirement and the protection need.

  2. 02

    Specify

We identify the equipment or system appropriate to the application.

  3. 03

    Install

We supply and implement the agreed solution.

  4. 04

    Support

We provide servicing, maintenance and technical support where required.

An armed system must be a working one.

Panels and detection devices need configuration and upkeep to stay dependable — STARLION supports the systems it installs per the equipment and requirement.

Intrusion detection questions.

What is an intrusion detection system?

A system designed to identify selected unauthorized access conditions or security events and provide an alarm indication — built from a control panel, detection devices and alarm indication equipment.

What types of events can intrusion systems detect?

Typically movement in protected areas and the opening of protected doors, windows or access points while the system is armed. What a specific system detects depends on the devices selected for the facility's requirement.

Does every intrusion system use the same detectors?

No. Detection devices are selected per area and requirement — internal areas, entry points and selected external zones each call for different approaches, defined by the system design.

Define what should raise the alarm.

A site survey establishes the protected areas and the detection approach that fits them.
